At the Hoogstraat Rehabilitation in Utrecht, rehabilitation has been taking place for children, young adults and adults for 77 years. The Hoogstraat Highlanders is a team of 6 handbikers, often former rehabilitants, who are accompanied by 6 buddies. Together with a nurse and doctor we train intensively for 9 months. We not only look at the physical feasibility but also at safety in terms of preventing skin injuries in the handbike. The Vicair cushions are a good aid for this, ensuring that pressure is well distributed and no shear forces occur. This ensures that the participants can safely take up the challenge.
